Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Waukesha County Criminal History, you consent to the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

Messages sent by email are retained as needed to prepare a response. They remain within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our systems automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that usage data for reporting. A browser can reject cookies, though blocking them may change how some site features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Maintaining site availability, speed, and security
  • Routing a search request to the selected partner
  • Measuring which content visitors use
  • Finding and correcting technical faults
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Waukesha County Criminal History does not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies request routes at the Sheriff's Records Division, Waukesha County Circuit Court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Public Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a record about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy. Each partner controls its own retention and disclosure rules, so review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to a sheriff, court, state agency, legal-aid organization, or third-party search service. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across sites for targeted advertising.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security controls are used to protect collected data. No internet service is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed.

Your Data Rights

Rights can differ by residence and applicable law. Wisconsin public criminal-history access is governed in part by the Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§19.31-19.39, while state criminal-history collection and dissemination are addressed by Wis. Stat. §165.83 and §165.84. For data held by this private site, you may:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
